"It's nice always to be able to get a hold of support."
Intranet and extranet for Danish sports
As a nationwide organization responsible for both recreational and elite sports, Danmarks Idrætsforbund (DIF) carries a huge responsibility in terms of communication and of furthering the democratic principles at all levels of society. In 2012, the main organization of sports decided to launch an intranet for its 70 employees across five different departments, and an extranet for its 61 federations.
Intranet with out-of-the-box features
Several types of platforms were considered before the job was eventually awarded to Oxygen, which has developed a solution based on Sitecore Intranet Portal. Oxygen Intranet is, by default, responsive* and comes with a wealth of social features, calendar, and more, as standard issue. All of which were items on DIF's wish list.
Significant improvement of knowledge sharing
Developing an intranet for 70 employees and 61 federations is quite a complex matter. There are employees, chairmen of federations, board members, regional members and committee members – all of whom have different input and requirements. This is then boiled down to a list of needs and likes. In addition, there are the new possibilities afforded by technology. To suit their specific needs, DIF opted for a solution where all users have an organizational affiliation, which gives them a pre-defined news stream. In addition, each user has the option of choosing one or more fields of interest, where he or she can follow or participate in debates.
An accessible supplier – also when there are bumps in the road
Project Manager Peter Gottlieb at DIF is quite pleased with the process, even though there have been bumps in the road.
– Oxygen are good people to work with. They have a flexible and accessible organization, and you can reach them even if things heat up, says Peter Gottlieb.
– Performing a one-to-one test of such an extensive intranet before going live is virtually impossible. You just have to trust the developers to be able to see the big picture. When we launched, a minor "information leak" surfaced where things ought to have been airtight. When something like that happens, it is vital to work with a supplier where you're able to get a hold of somebody who can solve the issue – and solve it quickly, says Peter Gottlieb contentedly.
